The C.D. Hubert Lectures is a Morehouse School of Religion hallmark. The annual series convenes in February and is a centerpiece of Morehouse School of Religion Founder’s Day celebration. This annual series honors Dr. Charles Du Bois Hubert who remains the epitome of a Christian academician, churchman, and Morehouse man. Hubert held a Morehouse College Bachelor of Arts degree (1909). Hubert in 1912 earned the Rochester Theological Seminary’s Bachelor of Arts (today a Master of Divinity degree). In addition, Hubert was awarded Morehouse College’s Doctorate of Divinity (1923).
The Morehouse Alumnus said of Hubert, “On the retirement of the late President Samuel H. Archer, in 1937, Dr. Hubert was named acting president of Morehouse College, and served in this capacity until the election of President Benjamin E. Mays, three years later. Since 1914 he had been director of the School of Religion. In all these positions Dr. Hubert exhibited the finest qualities of courageous, virile leadership.
